Learn with us
One of the main ways FGPM brings value to our first generation members is by acting as a resource for common questions and experiences. We invite you to explore our library of short articles - written by the FGPM Board of Directors or Milwaukee’s community leaders, links to our partner organizations, and ways to get involved with the FGPM mission.

Management May: Learning the Lingo
Corporate jargon is used between colleagues in the modern workplace to introduce new ideas, provide status updates, describe productivity measures, or convey a business message. As a first generation professional, you may not have experience using these words and phrases in regular speech and the definitions may not be available in the employee handbook, leaving you to piece together meanings through office conversation. While corporate jargon can be confusing, this week’s Article provides a non-exhaustive digest of common phrases and abbreviations to help get you started.

We also answer the age-old question: Can money buy happiness?
Five of our Favorite LinkedIn Features to Enhance Your Digital Presence (and Grow Your Visibility)
LinkedIn can be a valuable resource as you begin, or continue through, your professional journey. In this Article, we will highlight five of our favorite LinkedIn features to help you present your best professional self - and one great way to become a thought leader in your field.
Owning Your Development: Seven Considerations for Your Professional Development Plan
Once you are settled into your role and are ready for new challenges, you can develop a professional development plan (PDP). Your PDP will help you identify areas of strength (and opportunities for improvement), develop goals, set a timeline and milestones, and encourage you to track and evaluate your progress. Whether you are creating a PDP to advance within your current role, to switch roles or companies, or simply achieve a better understanding of your industry, your professional development plan should be an actionable plan for success.
FPGM Mentorship Program Orientation
At this Orientation, mentors and mentees gathered virtually to review the Program’s Mentorship Training, learn more about how mentoring pairings are made, define Program Expectations, and discuss mentorship resources available on the FGPM website. Please feel free to reference this recording as often as needed.
Three Benefits of Mentorship (and Keys for Successful Mentoring)
While we know that mentorship provides guidance for young professionals as they navigate their careers, mentorship also allows established leaders to glean valuable insight into the next generation of professionals. It is important to see mentorship as a two-way relationship which provides encouragement and accountability by both participants. This Article discusses three benefits of mentorship and how to get the most out of your mentorship experience.

We couldn’t do this without your support
In an effort to make FGPM as accessible to young professionals as possible, we have decided to forego membership dues for both general membership and participation in the Mentorship Program. For this reason, we are seeking public support through donations to continue to further our mission. FGPM is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
If you would like to get involved through sponsorship or in-kind donation, please email president@fgpm.org.
